Price increases of 30 percent to five million euros are on the cards: nevertheless, the Eching building committee is sticking to the new construction of the Günzenhausen fire station.

Eching/Günzenhausen

– At the end of July, when the Floriansjünger had invited to the summer party and vehicle blessing, the mood at FFW Günzenhausen was great.

Nothing stood in the way of the ground-breaking ceremony for the new home.

On Tuesday, however, the mood in the building committee threatened to change.

"If we don't continue today, it will have serious consequences for the community of Eching," threatened the CSU municipal councilor and Günzenhausen fire chief Bernhard Wallner.

2. Mayor Axel Reiß (Greens), who had previously questioned the project because of the escalating costs, even offered “my radio alarm clock” in the event of a stop.

Reiss could then take over his FFW job.

But how did it even come to this?

The municipal administration had recalculated due to current events (Ukraine war, inflation, etc.).

Taking into account a 20 percent increase in construction costs between the second and third quarters of 2021 and 2022 and assuming a further 15 percent in 2022/23, the additional costs came to more than one million euros: 4.99 million euros instead of 3.85.

Building authority manager Thomas Bimesmeier raised his index finger with regard to the second item on the agenda: “If we decide on the master builder work today, things will be up and running.

If we want to stop it, then now.” The alternative would then be to go to another tender.

"Waiting won't get us anywhere"

But the majority of the committee did not intend to do that: "Close your eyes and go through it," said FW spokesman Christoph Gürtner, pointing out that Günzenhausen needed a new FFW house, that the topic had been on the table for ten years and that potential savings had been exhausted.

"Waiting", according to Gürtner, "will not get us any further in the current economic situation".

Green Councilor Lena Haussmann (“If we have the money, we have to move on quickly”), CSU parliamentary group leader Georg Bartl (“We save nothing by postponing”) and FW Councilor Otmar Dallinger (“It would be a farce, now hitting the brakes") just like that.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

However, Herbert Hahner (SPD), who saw the committee "in trouble", was plagued by "stomach ache".

He recalled the "two million" that had been mentioned in the first meetings on the subject - "and now there are five!" Manfred Wutz (BfE) took a similar view and already announced his "no" for the vote while Mayor Sebastian Thaler did not question the financial viability of the project, but reminded of the budget of 3.85 million that was last decided.

And Axel Reiß even called for a complete rethink, brought the integration of the Günzenhausener Bürgersaal, which was also still to be built, back into play (which had long been rejected at this point) - which resulted in the well-known reaction from Bernhard Wallner.

Ultimately, the committee decided to continue with the previous plans for the FFW house.

Only Thaler, Wutz and Reiß voted against it.

There was even only one dissenting voice (Thaler's) when the master builder was then awarded to the Probat company.

Here, too, you have to put up with the expected additional costs of a good 30 percent (752,000 instead of 570,000 euros).

However, architect Susanne Wehkamp had advised the councilors to stay on the path they had chosen in this regard as well.
