The Ukrainian President rarely leaves Kyiv for security reasons.

On the return journey from the east of the country, Zelenskyj was involved in a car accident.

Izyum - Since the start of the Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rarely left Kyiv for security reasons.

But on Wednesday he traveled to the east of the country, where Ukrainian troops had earlier been successful in their counter-offensive.

Among other things, Selesnkyj visited the recaptured city of Izyum.

On the way back to the Ukrainian capital, the Ukrainian President was apparently involved in an accident - the police are investigating the incident.

After returning from the east of the country, a car in Kyiv collided with the head of state's car and his escort vehicles, Zelenskyy's spokesman Serhiy Nykyforov wrote on Facebook early Thursday morning.

The President had been examined by a doctor.

"No serious injuries were found," it said.

Further details on Selenskyj's state of health were not initially given.

Paramedics took care of the driver of the other car and took him to a hospital, it said.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Zelenskyj's planned trip to New York increasingly unlikely

Selenskyj had initially planned to personally take part in the general debate at the UN General Assembly in New York City next Tuesday.

However, a trip by the Ukrainian President is becoming increasingly unlikely, the security risk is apparently too high.

It would have been the first time since the beginning of the war that the president of the country under attack from Russia traveled abroad.

As several diplomats in New York confirmed to the German Press Agency on Wednesday (local time), a resolution is in the works that would allow the Ukrainian head of state to address the major political event via video.

A vote in the General Assembly, which according to Ukrainian information would require a simple majority of the voting countries among the 193 member states, could therefore take place on Friday.
