The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Zhang Ming, affirmed that Iran's membership in this organization will contribute to strengthening it and raising the level of its work.
After signing the pledges of Iran's permanent membership in the organization, Meng said during his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian that Iran's position in the region as a strong country enjoying security and stability is of importance to the Shanghai Organization.
Yesterday, Abdullahian signed a memorandum of commitment to Iran's permanent membership in the organization while attending the summit of its heads of state in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a major regional organization established in 2001 with the aim of launching multi-faceted security, economic and cultural cooperation at the initiative of the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
