The cleantech company Numbat and the food retailer Tegut are cooperating to ensure up to 1000 additional quick charging points in Germany.

Most of them already in 2023.

Fulda - The food trading company Tegut, with its headquarters in Fulda, is providing information about the project in a press release.

With the expansion of fast-charging infrastructure from 2023 in central and southern Germany, Numbat and Tegut want to lead the development of a nationwide fast-charging infrastructure in food retail.

This should ensure a “significant increase in fast charging stations up to 300 kW”.

"Almost fully charging the battery of the e-car in 15 to 20 minutes while doing your shopping in the store: This will be possible in our customer parking lots in the future," promises Christian Günther, who is responsible for energy management at Tegut.

As a Numbat spokeswoman explained when asked by the Fuldaer Zeitung, it is not yet clear exactly at what price the electricity will be sold to the end customer, also due to the currently difficult energy situation.

But it will be quite normal commercial prices - according to Numat, these are currently between 50 and 60 cents per kilowatt hour.

“In this way, we are making shopping even more convenient for our customers.

In the future, charging the e-car will no longer have to be planned, but will take place quickly and in a way that is suitable for everyday use.

This is an absolute benefit for our customers, because with this quick charging option we are completely responsive to their needs,” says Tegut.

So far, the implementation of a fast charging infrastructure has been difficult.

A complicated connection to the power grid, transformer stations with currently long delivery times for transformers, as well as serious construction work and high investment costs would have prevented the necessary expansion of the fast charging stations, says Tegut.

In Numbat, Tegut says it has now found a partner who solves these problems with innovative technology.

“Numbat relies on a combination of fast charging station and battery storage.

The installation is quick and uncomplicated, transformer stations are obsolete.

Tegut benefits, according to the press release, on the one hand from a sustainable and directly implementable fast charging offer for customers.

On the other hand, Numbat optimizes the power consumption in the respective branch through energy management and achieves cost savings.

The cleantech startup Numbat wants to unite three worlds with its patented technology: A fast charging station (HPC) for the trend topic e-mobility, an integrated battery storage for energy management solutions and all this with an environmentally friendly approach to the climate change, especially with the patented multi- life cycle concept.

The founders of Numbat are Dr.-Ing.

Maximilian Wegener and Martin Schall, both long-time managers in battery technology.

The company is based in Kempten in the Allgäu.

Almost all Tegut locations with parking space will be equipped with one to a maximum of five quick charging systems, each with two charging points, by 2023, the retail company announced.

In addition, the expansion of Tegut would result in additional charging locations every year.

In the future, the fast charging systems would be planned for every new building from the outset.

"In Tegut we have found another partner who relies on sustainable, new technologies and knows what the world of tomorrow really needs," says Numbat Managing Director Martin Schall.

"We can thus implement a project in the three-digit million range, which catapults us to become one of the leading suppliers of high-power chargers in Germany."

For Alexander Wilhelm, Director of Expansion, Construction and Real Estate at Tegut, the investment in the fast charging infrastructure is another important step in consistently pursuing the company's goals in terms of sustainability: "We practically adopted the motto when we founded Tegut 75 years ago the banner to trade responsibly with good food.”

This responsible action does not stop at Tegut when a customer leaves the store.

"We implement it throughout the company," he continues.

"On the one hand, an environmentally friendly fast charging offer is of course an additional service offer for our customers, but on the other hand it is primarily a large investment in clean mobility."
