The ombudsman against the supreme: "Mani Mazuz should be appointed to the committee for appointing senior officials"
Beharve Miara rejected Chief Justice Solberg's proposal to appoint Mazuz only temporarily.
According to her, an ad hoc appointment may harm the government's horizontal policy.
"An opening has been opened to erode the independent and particularly important position of the committee members as gatekeepers"

Legal Adviser to the Government Gali Beharev Miara rejected today (Thursday) Chief Justice Noam Solberg's proposal to appoint former Chief Justice Meni Mazuz as chairman of the Commission for Appointing Senior Officials on an ad hoc basis only for the purpose of appointing the next Chief of Staff.
"Because we are in an election period, each of the options is not optimal and each of them causes other difficulties," the consultant wrote.
"After examining both options, the state's position is that the appointment of the chairman of the committee on a temporary basis constitutes a violation of the government's horizontal policy, and opens the door to the erosion of the independent and especially important status of the committee members as gatekeepers."
