Vladimir Putin meets with allies.

However, a scene with Kyrgyzstan's president doesn't look very friendly.

Ukraine reacts with malice.

Samarkand – Vladimir Putin is looking to close ranks with his allies.

A summit meeting of the so-called Shanghai Cooperation Organization is taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Thursday and Friday.

China and Russia as well as India, Pakistan and the four Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will be there.

The meeting is primarily about securing power.

The group sees itself as a counterweight to the USA.

A side note of the two-day appointment, which was considered with malice in Ukraine: the Uzbek President kept Putin waiting - and thus once again caused unhappy pictures of the Kremlin chief.

It is not the first incident of this kind in the course of the Ukraine war.

Regardless of whether you want it or not.

Kyrgyzstan's president keeps Putin waiting - Ukraine reacts with malice

Videos show Putin waiting for his counterpart Sadyr Japarov in front of the flags of Russia and Kyrgyzstan.

The Kremlin boss holds a few slips of paper in his hand, reads the top one and then puts the stack aside.

He seems a bit impatient, but is then “redeemed” a few seconds later.

Dschaparow comes into the room - and greets his counterpart warmly.

Ukrainian Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, shared the scene on Twitter.

The former Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine wrote: "Putin was publicly humiliated again." The Kremlin chief used to let the political competition wait, now his counterparts are turning the tables.

Background: At a meeting with Turkey's head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Putin also had to wait alone.

Did Djaparov really want to "humiliate" Putin?

The exact background of his unpunctuality is not known.

Relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia are actually considered to be comparatively good.

The former Soviet republic is still attached to the Russian Federation.

Recently, however, relations seemed to cool down a bit.

The background is apparently a lack of investment from Moscow for the poor country between Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and China.

The country abstained from the UN resolution condemning the Russian invasion.

Likewise, by the way, like all other participants of the summit.

Only Uzbekistan stayed away from the vote altogether.

Apart from this marginal note, common cohesion was on the agenda at the summit meeting.

China's head of state and party leader Xi Jinping called on the group to deepen cooperation.

Putin is also interested in such a thing.

Despite international ostracism over the Ukraine war, he has struggled to demonstrate that he is by no means isolated.

Putin once again accused the West of making mistakes, saying the world was undergoing an "irreversible" transformation.

New centers of power are emerging in the world, he said, also with a view to Russia's closer cooperation with neighboring China.

The Shanghai Group is now the largest regional organization and is open to new members.

Putin thanked China for the "balanced" stance in the Ukraine war.

How is the meeting between the “old friends” to be classified?

The date seems empty and euphoric, but sends a signal to the world, analyzes our China department.
