Samarkand – Vladimir Putin is looking to close ranks with his allies.

A summit meeting of the so-called Shanghai Cooperation Organization is taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Thursday and Friday.

China and Russia as well as India, Pakistan and the four Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will be there.

The meeting is primarily about securing power.

The group sees itself as a counterweight to the USA.

A side note of the two-day appointment, which was considered with malice in Ukraine: the Uzbek President kept Putin waiting - and thus once again caused unhappy pictures of the Kremlin chief.

Did Djaparov really want to "humiliate" Putin?

The exact background of his unpunctuality is not known.

Relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia are actually considered to be comparatively good.

The former Soviet republic is still attached to the Russian Federation.

Recently, however, relations seemed to cool down a bit.

The background is apparently a lack of investment from Moscow for the poor country between Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and China.

The country abstained from the UN resolution condemning the Russian invasion.

Likewise, by the way, like all other participants of the summit.

Only Uzbekistan stayed away from the vote altogether.
