It called on the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to comply with the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction, stressing their intention to increase cooperation in the field of defense and security.
The final statement of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, according to Sputnik, said: Member states call for the full implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction as an effective tool for disarmament and non-proliferation, and stresses the importance of destroying all declared stockpiles of chemical weapons as soon as possible.
The statement added: Member states referred to the results of the meeting of their defense ministers in Tashkent on August 24 and 25, where they expressed the strengthening of cooperation in the field of defense and security.
The member states expressed their intention to establish a single list of terrorist, separatist and extremist organizations and said: Member states will seek, in accordance with their national laws and on the basis of consensus, to develop common principles and approaches to form a unified list of terrorist, separatist and extremist organizations, which stipulates the prohibition of their activities on the territory of the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
With regard to the nuclear agreement with Iran, the statement said: Member states consider the sustainable implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program as important, and in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, calls on all participants to strictly fulfill their obligations for the comprehensive and effective implementation of the agreement.
