The Shared Foundation, chaired by Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, today (16th) launched the "Cataract Blindness Elimination Project" with the Ministry of Health in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
The three-year project aims to eliminate thousands of backlogs of cataract blindness cases in Laos.

The foundation provided two mobile ophthalmic surgery vehicles for the Laos project, and was served by a 10-member medical team from Guangxi, which could complete cataract surgery within 20 minutes. The team also performed cataract surgery in Cambodia.
Liang Zhenying said: "In the past two years, non-governmental exchanges between China and Laos have also been affected by the global new crown epidemic. As the first non-governmental organization to go to Laos after the epidemic, the Sharing Foundation hopes to carry out the project to eliminate cataract blindness. Taking this opportunity, we will actively renew people-to-people exchanges, facilitate people-to-people bonds, inject new elements into the traditional friendship between China and Laos, and make new contributions to further promoting the common development of the two countries.”
In addition to assisting in the elimination of cataracts, the Foundation has also cooperated with the Lao Ministry of Health on many occasions. In June last year, the Foundation donated more than 20 tons of medical equipment to Laos to strengthen Laos' ability to fight the epidemic.
