Damascus-SANA

Today, the Palestinians and the Lebanese recall with great pain and sorrow the fortieth anniversary of one of the most brutal and bloodiest massacres in the history of the Palestinian people, when in 1982 the Israeli occupation forces stormed the Sabra and Shatila refugee camp near the Lebanese capital Beirut and massacred and killed thousands of Palestinians and Lebanese for three continuous days amid an international silence.

The chapters of the brutal massacre began on the 13th and 14th of September 1982 when the Israeli occupation forces advanced into the city of Beirut under heavy air cover and deployed dozens of tanks on the outskirts of Shatila refugee camp and the adjacent Sabra neighborhood, then tightened their control over it. The following evening, the Minister of War of the occupation entity ordered At that time, Ariel Sharon surrounded the camp in preparation to commit one of the most heinous massacres in it.

Three days of continuous killings committed by the Israeli occupation forces and their agents from the “Lebanese Forces” militia and the so-called “South Lebanon Army” against the Palestinians and the Lebanese, and they did not allow entry to the camp until after the massacre ended on the eighteenth of September, leaving body parts and mutilated bodies in the streets and inside destroyed houses. And signed more than three thousand victims, mostly children, women and the elderly.

Nuhad Sorour Al-Maree, terrified of what she saw of the horrific scenes, spoke with pain and grief about losing most of her family members and how the brain of her sister, Shadia, who completed her first year before the massacre and passed away while calling "My mother, my mother", was scattered.

In another criminal scene, Hajj Munir al-Hajj Ali, 60, goes back 40 years by saying: “In the evening hours, we heard heavy shooting throughout the camp after an Israeli siege. They did not leave anything forbidden except that they committed it, they cut their stomachs, slaughtered children, and destroyed homes for their occupants.”

Despite the atrocity of the brutal massacre, the formal international investigations were limited to this crime through the formation of the informal “McBride” committee to investigate Israeli violations of international law during its invasion of Lebanon. Contributed to planning and preparing for massacres and actually facilitating the killings.

The Sabra and Shatila massacre remains a bleeding wound and an infamous scar in the history of humanity, and is added to the record of crime and terrorism that the occupation entity has been accustomed to since its inception, in light of the inability and silence of the international community to hold its perpetrators accountable, contented with statements and statements of condemnation and denunciation, as it usually does.
