It happened in the city of Changsha in the southern province of Hunan.
According to reports from the field, a building of the China Telecom company, which is more than 200 meters high, caught fire like a match and "burned at the highest intensity".
In the building, which has 42 floors, 35 tons of flammable materials were kept.
The fire was extinguished, but the number of casualties is unknown.
The fire services sent 36 fire engines to the area.
280 firefighters participated in efforts to extinguish the fire.
