A strike by air traffic controllers at French airports to demand a response to the country's inflation has disrupted air traffic in Europe, canceling 1,000 flights and delaying other flights longer than usual.

According to Agence France-Presse that the French Federation of Air Traffic Controllers announced the strike to demand higher salaries in the face of inflation and to speed up employment.

For its part, the French Directorate General of Civil Aviation asked companies to preemptively cancel half of their flights today, i.e. about a thousand canceled flights to or from French territory, noting that many airports such as Montpellier, La Rochelle and Rennes have been closed and the minimum services are provided at 16 airports.

The directorate called on passengers to postpone their flights, while companies individually informed their customers whose flights were canceled and offered them to postpone or refund their money.

In turn, the French Federation of Air Traffic Controllers decided to strike to express its concern about the current level of inflation in addition to future appointments, stressing concern about the retirement of a third of air navigation control engineers between 2029 and 2035, calling for the speedy recruitment and training of other engineers.

The union indicated that it had submitted a notice to carry out a second strike, to start from the 28th to the 30th of this month.
