The municipality of Kochel has now set up garbage containers at Walchensee.

But it is still a test phase.

At the end of September a decision will be made on how to proceed.

Kochel am See/Walchensee – The issue of rubbish is always a hot topic at Walchensee.

The municipality of Kochel, in coordination with the district office, has been pursuing the line of a waste-free region for several years.

In other words: because there are no rubbish bins, day-trippers should take their rubbish home with them.

During the Corona period, however, pictures of mountains of rubbish in front of dog toilets made negative headlines.

In September last year, this was discussed in detail in the Kochler municipal council.

The result: Continue to follow the line of the "Conservation begins with you" campaign.

Only Klaus Barthel (SPD) took a different view at the time – “it won’t work in the long run,” he said.

Three containers in Walchensee, one in Kochel

On Tuesday, Mayor Thomas Holz (CSU) announced at the Kochel municipal council meeting that four large garbage containers had been set up: three in parking lots at Walchensee (at the Herzogstandbahn, Surferwiese and Einsiedl parking lots) and at the Trimini parking lot in Kochel.

The background to this is that the community has set up toilet facility containers, where RV travelers in particular have left a lot of rubbish, said Holz, while showing pictures with rubbish bags.

"Things can be assigned quite clearly."

He criticized the statements made by a district office employee that the garbage at the lake had recently decreased by 80 percent and could not be proven.

According to the mayor, at the end of July there was a meeting with representatives of the municipality of Jachenau and the Bavarian State Forests.

It was agreed to do a test phase with large garbage containers.

These were deliberately set up next to the toilet containers.

Free disposal of chemical toilets

"In the beginning, people still put their rubbish in front of the dumpsters," Holz said, shaking his head at the meeting, but now that signs have been put up, "they throw it in there too."

There is also a disposal station for chemical toilets from mobile homes.

This will also be accepted, said Holz.

It is currently being offered for free with a request for a donation.

"There are also really people who donate something," he praised.

Something else was observed in the toilet facilities in summer: "Travellers also tap the water there," said Holz in an interview with our newspaper.

"It's hard to believe."

Decision will be made in autumn

And what about the dumpsters?

At the end of September, says Holz, the people involved in the Walchensee concept - including the lower nature conservation authority - will meet, take stock and then discuss how to proceed.
