Lahav 433's claims division filed yesterday (Thursday) with the Hadera Magistrate's Court an indictment against a member of the Abu Latif crime family, who is considered one of the most prominent on the national crime map, as well as against two other defendants, for violent extortion of a resident of a settlement in the north.
According to the indictment, the victim, who was a business partner of the accused William Lius, a resident of the village of Mailia in the north, had a financial debt of NIS 220,000 to one of the suppliers of the business.
The victim settled the debt directly with the supplier and following his actions, the defendants, Khaled Abu Latif from the village of Rama, Muhammad Manae from Karmiel and William Lius decided to extort him for a debt that he allegedly owed them.
According to the indictment, the defendants initiated a "blackmail meeting" to which the complainant was summoned, which was held in the village of Rama.
At the scene, seven people were waiting for the victim, including the three defendants and another person who identified himself as belonging to the Abu Latif crime family.
During the meeting, Khaled Abu Latif said that the victim's debt amounts to NIS 800,000, of which NIS 580,000 goes to his business partner Lius and another 220,000 to the supplier.

"This is not the place to discuss these things if at all," said the complainant.
"What is this number? Where did it come from?".
According to him the debt to the supplier has been settled and the debt to Lios is a fiction.
In response, Lius said that he suffered damages due to the business partnership with him and Khaled Abu Latif added "the claims are not interesting - a debt is a debt".
According to the indictment, at the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to meet once more, but the complainant was determined to avoid this meeting, due to his fear of those involved.
The reaction of the chain was not long in coming and a few days later a shot was fired at the complainant's house.
Miraculously there were no casualties in the incident, but later an explosive device was thrown towards the yard of the victim's house, which exploded and injured the hand of one of the victim's family members.
A few days later, an explosive charge was thrown into the yard, as well as another charge that exploded.
A police force that was near the scene began chasing the people who threw the explosives, during which a shot was fired that killed one of those involved and wounded another.
