Light pollution remains an issue in Markt Schwaben.

The voter group ZMS has now again submitted an application to the municipal council to dim the lights further down in the village.

Markt Schwaben – Since January 2021, the subject of light pollution, energy and cost savings as well as CO2 reduction has been on the agenda in the market town council or in one of the technical committees.

Now the voter group Zukunft Markt Schwaben (ZMS) has made another push on September 14 and formally submitted an application.

The plenum should and will publicly debate this in its public session on Thursday, September 22nd.

The application of September 14 essentially consists of two points: According to the ZMSler, Markt Schwaben has been a climate protection zone since autumn 2019 and has joined the declaration of intent for climate neutrality by 2030.

Therefore, the ZMS is applying for a catalog of measures to be drawn up to reduce light emissions in Markt Schwaben.

Ultimately, this would lead to savings in energy, costs and consequently a reduction in CO2.

Motion detectors and dimmers required

Secondly: As a first concrete measure, the use of motion detectors and light dimmers should be checked in comparison to the permanent lighting of the park-and-ride car park in Burgerfeld in the evening and at night until 3 a.m. and the continuous night-time lighting at the Markt Schwaben building yard.

Markt Schwaben itself must serve as a role model, it goes on to say.

In several previous meetings, the administration had verbally pointed out again and again that a lot had happened since the voter group first pushed forward in the market town council.

In particular, the lighting times in the car park have already been changed or twilight switches are being installed.

Completion is expected in early October.

As far as the request from the ZMS is concerned to also install motion detectors here, the municipality says it has obtained offers.

Further energy saving measures are to follow

The administration, it was said again and again recently, is constantly concerned with saving energy wherever possible, simply because of the budget consolidation that has been in place since 2018.

For example, the path lighting on the Postanger is currently being converted to warm white LEDs.

The outdoor areas of the town hall and the sports park are also being planned.

The implementation is carried out by building staff.

Completion is expected by October 1st.

The administration has also examined a possible expansion of photovoltaic systems in all 51 municipal properties (town hall, fire station, local history museum, sewage treatment plant, water tower, etc.).

Results will be forthcoming.

Due to the new overall energy policy situation as a result of the Ukraine war in particular, there has been intensive talk in the market community for some time about lowering the air temperatures in the offices and work rooms, switching off the radiators in the hallways in the town hall, deactivating hot water boilers and lowering the air temperature in the indoor pool (see the report column opposite) and a drop in the water temperature in the indoor pool.
