The Siegertsbrunner Fritz Maurer is again ill with cancer.

He asks that as many as possible register as donors.

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn

– He doesn't give up, but family, friends and guests are worried about Fritz Maurer's health.

The Siegertsbrunner curve host, who many affectionately call "Fritzi", has fallen ill with cancer again.

Now he is in a Munich hospital, has to endure weeks of chemotherapy and is hoping for a stem cell transplant.

To increase the chances of finding a donor, friends and acquaintances on Facebook, Instagram and Co call for registering with the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS).

"The reactions are overwhelming," says Fritz Maurer, touched.

"The appeal has certainly been shared tens of thousands of times."

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn: Thick chunks on the neck - restaurateur has cancer

It's like a nightmare: In autumn 2020, almost overnight, the life of the popular restaurateur, who has been successfully running the traditional Alter Wirt in Siegertsbrunn, also known as the Curve Inn due to its location, changed for years.

“In the morning I suddenly had a big chunk on my neck – like a string of pearls,” the 54-year-old recalls.

At the doctor's the terrible diagnosis follows: lymphatic cancer.

Ten hard months followed for Fritz Maurer with chemotherapy and numerous hospital stays.

The reward: In August 2021 he will be released as recovered.

District of Munich: New cancer cells discovered at restaurateur

But now the insidious disease is back: New cancer cells were discovered during an ultrasound as part of the regular follow-up examinations.

Fritz Maurer has now been in the hospital for almost 14 days and has already endured numerous chemo treatments.

In this way, the cancer should be pushed back, in the best case be defeated.

But the greatest chance of a cure is a stem cell transplant.

"As a Central European, my chances of finding a suitable donor are not that bad, the doctors told me," says the innkeeper.

DKMS: typing call spreads fast

But his friends don't want to rely on that.

A good friend of mine has therefore started an appeal asking to be registered with the DKMS.

The call for typing has spread like wildfire in the past few days, and the sympathy for the fate of the curve host is huge - from the Glonner 1860 fan club (Fritzi is a Red after all) to boys' clubs and fire brigades from the village and the surrounding area to the municipality of Höhenkirchen -Siegertsbrunn: "I received hundreds of get well wishes via WhatsApp - and numerous confirmations of registration," says Fritz Maurer, visibly touched.

The daughter of a friend of his even spread the call in Brazil.

"It's shared by everyone on all channels."

District of Munich: support from his wife and child

During this time, the innkeeper is mainly supported by his wife and child, but also by his employees in the curve host, who keep the inn running: "They do it great." In order to at least relieve his team a little, the curve host is currently closed on Mondays .

In return, the staff in the infirmary where Fritz Maurer is lying can enjoy the legendary curve host schnitzel these days.

"A waiter brings 30 schnitzel," says the restaurateur, who invited doctors and nurses to his restaurant out of gratitude after his last chemotherapy.

This time, too, he feels well taken care of: "What they are doing here is amazing."

How to help:

Anyone wishing to register as a potential stem cell donor can request a registration set on the Internet at www.dkms.de.
