Munich – The Oktoberfest in Munich is imminent.

After a two-year Corona break, the 187th edition of the world's most famous folk festival will take place this weekend.

It starts on Saturday (September 17).

At 12 noon Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) taps the first barrel and the Wiesn is officially open.

, the tents open at 9 a.m., from 10 a.m. there are non-alcoholic drinks (except beer), at 12 noon the beer is served with the tapping.

Monday to Friday

 the tents open at 10am and close at 11.30pm.

Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, 3.10. 

the serving starts at 9 a.m., the curfew is at 11.30 p.m.

In the large festival halls 

, the last beer and the last music will be at 10:30 p.m.

In the small tents

 such as chicken roasting, snack and café tents, serving and music ends at 11 p.m.

Every year the marquees at the Oktoberfest are bursting at the seams - everyone wants to get one of the popular seats.

Understandable, because the beer tents have many special features to offer.

The weather is not kind to folk festival fans this year.

The Oktoberfest 2022 is expected to start wet and cold.

At the time of tapping, it remains quite cool in Munich at 13 degrees, and there is also a fresh breeze.

"The chances of a dry and warm Oktoberfest opening at the weekend are poor," concluded a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Monday, September 14th.

In April, Reiter announced that the Wiesn could take place despite Corona - and without restrictions.

At the time, Reiter made it clear that he himself was not happy with the decision to have an unrestricted Oktoberfest.

However, the mayor, in consultation with Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, came to the conclusion that neither a cancellation nor a restricted event would have been legally justifiable.
