The interim director general of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) Olivier Mushiete and his deputy, appointed a year ago, were dismissed by the Minister of the Environment for "
mismanagement
".
The Congolese Nature Conservation Institute is the public body that manages the dozens of parks and reserves in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Environment Minister Ève Bazaïba has appointed Henry Mbale Kunzi and Bernard Mbath Nzekana "
to act as interim
" Director General and Deputy Director General within ICCN.
Their appointments aim to "
put order
" in this public establishment which has been "
corrupted by mismanagement and permanent conflicts
" between the two former leaders, explained Michel Koyakpa, adviser in charge of communication at the Ministry of l 'Environment.

The former interim director general Olivier Mushiete and his deputy Vincent Imbongo, had been promoted to these positions in August 2021, after the suspension of the former director general Cosma Wilungula and all the members of the board of directors of the ICCN by Ève Bazaïba.
Questioned by AFP, Olivier Mushiete confirmed that his duties had been terminated, without commenting.
