Starnberg - "We are structurally understaffed and urgently need more money": This is how representatives of the regional public transport (ÖPNV) recently formulated their urgent appeal to the federal government and the Bavarian state government.

As part of a "floating press conference" on the EMS Berg, Heiko Büttner (S-Bahn Munich), Thomas Prechtl (Bavarian Railway Company), Dr.

Bernd Rosenbusch (MVV) and Ingo Wortmann (MGV) but also about the success of the nine-euro ticket.

At the same time, the regional mobility representatives are pessimistic about the future, since exploding energy prices will lead to increasing cost increases.

Ingo Wortmann (Chairman of the Management Board of MVG) observes the current cost increases with great concern.

In the end, higher electricity prices and structural underfunding of the Munich transport company always lead to a greater financial burden for rail passengers.

"The prices should actually be increased to 22 percent," warns Wortmann.

The MVG boss is aware that these rapid cost increases would not be supported by the customers.

For this reason, politicians must provide sufficient financial resources in the future to be able to continue to guarantee well-functioning public transport.

The federal government must provide financial resources

According to the mobility representatives, the continuation of a discounted local transport ticket can only be guaranteed by introducing a financial rescue package.

In addition, important questions such as the nationwide distribution of revenue must be clarified in concrete terms.

The regional public transport representatives are positive about the idea of a 69-euro ticket as the successor to the 9-euro ticket, provided that the federal and state governments provide the necessary financial resources.

In October, the conference of transport ministers will decide whether to continue with a discounted local transport ticket.

S-Bahn relies on prevention and renewal

In the near future, the Munich S-Bahn will focus on prevention and renewal.

The infrastructure, which is prone to failure, is being stabilized bit by bit.

At the same time, the S-Bahn fleet will be updated.

MVV boss Bernd Rosenbusch is aware that these objectives cannot be achieved without burdening passengers.

There are currently 600 construction sites in the S-Bahn network.

In addition, there is a growing number of passengers that brings the S-Bahn network to the wheel of collapse again and again.

To be able to guarantee stability and quality, you simply need more money.

Accordingly, Rosenbusch and his colleagues are appealing for the federal and state governments to contribute more to the costs of the upcoming projects.

"60 percent of all delays are infrastructure-related," emphasizes Thomas Prechtl (Bavarian Railway Company).

In order to be able to counteract this problem effectively, it is important that the investment backlog is reduced and repairs to the railway network are tackled preventively in the future.
