Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral will take place in London on Monday.

On this occasion, London Heathrow Airport wants to stop operations for a short time.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has thrown Britain into a state of emergency.

If you are currently traveling as a tourist in London, you have to reckon with the fact that many sights and castles are closed.

The day of the funeral, September 19, becomes a non-working holiday for the British.

London Heathrow Airport has also announced that operations will be restricted during the Queen's funeral service.

Flight operations suspended during minutes of silence for the Queen

From 11 a.m. local time (12 p.m. CEST) a big funeral service for Queen Elizabeth II will take place in Westminster Abbey in London, to which state guests from all over the world are invited.

During the ceremony, there will be a two-minute nationwide silence at 11:55 a.m.

The Queen's coffin will then be taken in procession to Windsor Castle, where she is to be buried in St George's Chapel alongside her husband Prince Philip.

"As a sign of respect, flight operations to and from the airport will be adjusted accordingly to avoid noise pollution at certain locations at certain times," the airport announced, according to the online portal

The airport is almost halfway between Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle.

Between 11:40 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. local time, operations should even be completely stopped.

There should also be restrictions in the afternoon when the processions to Windsor take place: arrivals between 1:45 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. and departures between 3:05 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. are affected.

Fewer departures will also be made during the Queen's funeral at Windsor Castle.

According to the airport, passengers whose flights are affected by the restrictions will be informed directly by the airlines.

However, work is being done to limit the effects, according to Twitter.

London City Airport also announced adjustments to its flight schedule to avoid disrupting the funeral service: "During the State Funeral, flights from London City will not fly via Westminster out of respect for Her Majesty The Queen's funeral ceremonies.

We are working closely with our airlines to be able to offer a normal flight schedule on that day.

Should the flight times change, passengers will be informed by their airlines,” the airport informs on its website.

Between 11:45 a.m. and 12:05 p.m., operations are to be completely stopped, as at Heathrow.

London Luton Airport is located to the east of the city center and therefore allows operations to continue as much as possible.

Only during the nationwide minutes of silence on September 19 will operations be "briefly suspended," as they did the night before at 8 p.m. local time during another scheduled minute of silence for the Queen.
