An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck off the Chinese island of Taiwan today.
The quake occurred off the eastern coast of Taiwan, about 50 km north of the city of Taitung, at a depth of 10 km, the AFP news agency quoted the US Geological Survey as saying.
An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of Taiwan on June 28.
Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates in the South China Sea and is prone to earthquakes, with more than 100 people killed in a devastating earthquake in the south of the island in 2016.
