Mass crash near Nuremberg: Centimeter-thick hail sets in – then it crashes several times

A mass accident has occurred near Nuremberg.

The trigger was probably the sudden onset of heavy hail.

After the onset of hail, there were several accidents in the Nuremberg region.

One person had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Schnaittach – Early on Saturday evening, September 17th, heavy hail suddenly fell over the Nuremberg region.

It was probably the trigger for a mass accident on Autobahn 9. A total of 13 vehicles were involved in an accident, spread over two collisions.

Several people were injured - at least one seriously.

The current information situation is still somewhat unclear.

According to a report by

, two accidents, one in each direction, occurred on the A9 near Schnaittach and Hormersdorf, district of Nürnberger Land.

Nine cars collided in the direction of Nuremberg and four in the opposite direction.

As the reason for the mass accidents,

the hailstorm that suddenly came down – with hailstones the size of a centimeter.

The dpa writes, based on initial police information, that there was an accident involving seven vehicles in the direction of Nuremberg.

This crash is also related to the hail.

There was also a crash on the opposite lane – but this accident was not related to the hail, according to the dpa, referring to a police spokesman.

Accidents on the A9: Several injured - one person transported by helicopter

The dpa writes of at least two injuries, but points out that this number could increase.

The exact number of injured is not yet clear.

Due to the mass accident, there are currently severe traffic disruptions on the A9.
