Oranges and apples are all the ingredients needed to make this easy jam.

It's just important not to peel the apples beforehand.

A jam without preserving sugar?

Why not, you only need ripe fruit.

That's where oranges and apples come in handy.

The sweetness of the fruit saves the sugar, the apple peels the gelling agent.

And in no time at all, a delicious spread or biscuit filling without artificial additives is ready.

Fructose is usually sweet enough if you use ripe and aromatic fruit for this jam.

Apples contain pectin in their skin, a natural fiber normally found in preserving sugar that causes jams to set.

Thanks to the pectin, the jam does not run off the bread.

And that's why it's also important not to peel the apples.

In order for the pectin to develop its full strength, a certain acidity is required, which is usually provided by lemon juice or citric acid.

In this recipe, the oranges do it.

For the simple orange and apple jam you need six oranges and two sweet apples.

According to

fast

recipes.eu, proceed as follows for the preparation:

  • 1. Peel the oranges, removing the white peel as well.

    To cut in pieces.

Wash the apples, remove the core and cut the apples into pieces, but do not peel.

  • 2. Put the oranges and apples in a saucepan, bring to the boil and simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • 3. When the food thermometer shows 180 degrees Celsius, the jam is ready.

    Alternatively, do a gelling test.

Pour the hot mixture into clean jars and seal.

By the way, did you know that under food law one only speaks of jam if citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges or tangerines are used?

In all other cases, the preserves are called jam.

Do you still have a lot of apples that you have to use?

Then try an apple jelly with just two ingredients.
