Three people died after two small planes collided in mid-air in Colorado on Saturday, authorities said.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash and death toll.

No one from the sheriff's office could be immediately reached for additional information on the incident.

The collision was reported to authorities at 8:54 am, according to Denver's KUSA station, an NBC affiliate.
One of the planes was found in a field in the 10,000 block of Niwot Road, while the other plane was discovered near the 9,700 block of the same street, the channel reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement that a single-engine Cessna 172 was one of the planes in the collision.
Two people were on board the plane, according to the authority.
The mid-air collision occurred near Vance Brand Airport in Longmont, Colorado, around 8:50 a.m., the FAA said.

The National Transportation Safety Board tweeted that the second plane to crash was a Sonex Xenos.
Both federal entities will investigate the reasons for the accident with the NTSB leading the investigation, the FAA said.
