Latin American presidents and ministers, winners of the Nobel Peace Prize and different Latin American personalities who work in the search for solutions will meet this Monday and Tuesday in New York in the framework of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York in the event “Many Voices, One Region: Latin America and the Caribbean working on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, organized by CAF-Development Bank of Latin America.
It is a space for reflection on how the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, from their governments and civil society, have advanced and promoted the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that mark the international agenda until 2030 in the search for a fairer and better world.
Among the guests who will be part of this conversation are the heads of state of Argentina, Alberto Fernández;
from Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and from Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei.
In addition, one of the panels on Monday, September 19, will feature the participation of three Latin Americans who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize: the Argentine Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, the Guatemalan Rigoberta Menchú and the Colombian Juan Manuel Santos.
"The personalities will offer their vision on fundamental issues such as human rights, sustainable development and climate change, among others," can be read in the presentation of the conversation.
The panel will take place on Monday, September 19 at 1:00 p.m. New York time (2:00 p.m. Mexico City or Bogotá) and can be followed live via streaming on CAF platforms.
The sessions, which will revolve around the topics of food security, inclusion of people with disabilities, leadership, sustainability and education, among others, will also be broadcast by El País América, an ally of CAF, through the América Futura portal.
In the conversations, prominent figures of global relevance will dialogue, such as the American economist Jeffrey Sachs, the former president of the Spanish Government, José María Aznar, the former Panamanian president Martín Torrijos, the former Costa Rican vice president Epsy Campbell, the director of the UN World Food Program, David Beasley, former Salvadoran Foreign Minister Marisol Argueta de Barillas, UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Luis Felipe López-Calva, ministers from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago,
From civil society, the private sector and academia there will be guests such as Eglantina Zingg, founder and CEO of Goleadoras.org;
Henrique Braun, president of the Coca Cola Company in Latin America;
Darren Ware, senior vice president of Government Relations for Mastercard;
Alejandro Werner, director of the Institute of the Americas, Georgetown;
Gianna Cunazza, executive director of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games;
Philipp Muller-Wirth, head of the UNESCO Sports section;
and Chelsey Gotell, Member of the Governing Board of the International Olympic Committee.
