Kyrgyzstan announced that 37 of its citizens were killed and 129 others wounded in clashes on the border with Tajikistan.
The TASS news agency quoted the press service of the Kyrgyz Emergencies Ministry as saying today that the number of Kyrgyz citizens killed in armed clashes on the border with Tajikistan earlier this week has risen to 37, while 129 others were injured.
A previous toll indicated that 24 people were killed as a result of violent clashes that continued earlier on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, with the two sides exchanging accusations of launching new attacks.
In addition, the border service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security announced in a statement today that the situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajik border section in Chun Alai in the Osh and Batkin regions is still tense.
The statement pointed out that the border guard teams of the State Committee for National Security deployed in the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the border are "working in an enhanced manner" and that "the state leadership is taking all measures to bring stability, curb attempts to escalate, provoke conflicts and resolve emerging issues peacefully."
It is noteworthy that Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed yesterday to a cease-fire on the common border, after an escalation in the confrontations between the two sides, which resulted in casualties and injuries.
