Shortly before Queen Elizabeth II's death, her adviser John Warren called her.

Now he gives insights into his last conversation with the Queen.

London – The news hit the world surprisingly on September 8th: Queen Elizabeth II is dead. Her Majesty's funeral on Monday (September 19th) is already considered to be the biggest media event of the year.

In the last hours of her life, the queen had gathered her loved ones around her.

Her heir to the throne, King Charles III.

along with his wife Camilla was there.

However, Elizabeth's grandsons Prince Harry and Prince William did not make it to their beloved grandmother in time.

Shortly before her death, not only her family spoke to the Queen.

John Warren was also in touch with the Queen just hours before her death.

Her exciting and curious topic of conversation: horses.

Warren was in fact an advisor to the Queen, providing advice and assistance on aspects of her horse breeding and horse racing.

He met the Queen on her last weekend in Scotland, Warren told the British PA news agency.

"We sat together for hours over the weekend to develop strategies and make plans for the future." Then the two of them spoke on the phone again on Tuesday evening (September 6).

"She was perfectly sane and in great shape mentally," Warren said.

It is unimaginable that the Queen died less than 48 hours later.

John Warren worked for years as an adviser to the Queen – he remembers the touching moment

Warren said the Queen was in tears after her horse Estimate won the famous Ascot race in 2013.

The monarch "virtually galloped" as she walked from the royal box to the paddock and gave "Estimate" a "wonderful and well-deserved slap."

"It was very touching to see the Queen focus solely on this creature who had done something for her.

That was remarkable," Warren said.

He was an advisor to the Queen for more than 13 years.

"I was fortunate to be so close to her through our shared fascination."

After her death, many people in Great Britain want to say goodbye to their monarch.

Miles of queues with hours of waiting formed in front of Westminster Hall, where her coffin is laid out.

On Saturday, however, there was a scandal.

A man suddenly ran towards the Queen's coffin - and was arrested.
