Heirs, each in our own way, of the great biblical tradition, it seems particularly important to us, in these times marked by so much violence and fractures, to resound together the divine call which springs from the depths of the ages:
"Choose the life!"
(Deuteronomy 30, 19).
This call does not only concern believers: it constitutes a source of wisdom for all those who want to contribute to building an authentically fraternal society, a society that is truly worthy of our humanity.
The opinion just published by the National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) on “ethical questions relating to end-of-life situations” gives rise to varied interpretations.
Many retain exclusively that it opens up the possibility of legislating in favor of active assistance in dying.
