The fire which covered 350 hectares in Courgeac, in the south of Charente, has been declared "

", the prefecture announced in a press release on Sunday.

"

This Sunday, September 18 in the morning, the fire in the town of Courgeac is fixed, but not completely extinguished

", writes the prefecture, indicating that the firefighters continue "

their missions of surveillance, treatment of edges and hot spots

" .

The authorities recorded Thursday afternoon a total of 16 “

almost simultaneous

” fire starts in five neighboring towns along the D24 road, about thirty kilometers south of Angoulême.

The track of an arsonist is privileged.

The fire had also affected the neighboring town of Nonac, traversing 20 hectares of pines and hardwoods before being quickly fixed, according to the prefecture.

Nearly forty people had been evacuated from the area and the village of Courgeac had been “

confined following the significant smoke that emerges from these fires

”.
