The Iraqi Minister of Environment, Dr. Jassim Abdel Aziz Hammadi, discussed with Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Obeid, Director-General of the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands, the deterioration of joint cooperation relations between the two sides and ways to enhance and develop them in various fields, during their meeting today at ACSAD headquarters in Al-Saboura in Damascus countryside.
During the meeting, topics of climate change, rainwater harvesting, conservation agriculture, combating desertification, limiting land degradation, combating encroachment of sand dunes and biogas were discussed.
They also discussed the logistical preparations for holding an Arab national conference at the level of the Arab ministers of agriculture, water and environment, which was recently approved by the ACSAD General Assembly, in order to discuss food and water security in the Arab region and ways to achieve them and prepare for the climate summit that will be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt during the month of December of this year, in addition to To implement joint projects to adapt to climate changes and reduce their negative effects on the sectors of agriculture, water, environment and greenhouse gas emissions.
Al-Obaid affirmed the permanent center’s readiness to put all its capabilities and expertise in the service of the programs and projects of the Iraqi Ministry of Environment to meet its ambitions and future plans, while the Iraqi minister noted the role of ACSAD in achieving Arab food and water security and the level it has achieved in its scientific and practical performance and the position it has reached in all areas of its work.
