2022-09-18T10:08:13.486Z

Demonstrations were recorded in the capital Tehran as well as in the city of Sasandaj, the capital of the Kurdish province of Iran.

Iran is in turmoil in the past day following the killing of the young Mahsa Amini by the country's modesty police, while the authorities in Tehran deny the regime's responsibility and claim that she died of a "stroke and a brain attack".

Thousands of people went out to protest in the capital Tehran and in the Kurdish region of the country, after the death of the young woman was announced on Friday evening at Kasara Hospital in the capital Tehran.

Amini, 222 years old of Kurdish origin, was visiting Tehran with her family when she was arrested by the modesty police and was apparently beaten so severely that she lost consciousness and died a few days later in the hospital.

Hundreds of students participated in demonstrations at Tehran University this morning, carrying signs and chanting slogans against the regime.

The demonstrators marched at a fast pace and the police were unable to stop the protest, despite increasing their presence in the center of the Iranian capital.

While hundreds demonstrated in the capital, the Kurdish region in southern Iran exploded in protest.

The demonstrations started in the hometown of Amini Skaz and from there spread to the capital of the Kurdish member Sanandaj.

Hundreds of women gathered in one of the main squares in the city and removed the head covering, which is considered among the Kurdish minority to be a symbol of oppression imposed by the religious establishment in Tehran.

The demonstrators, chanting "death to the dictator" and "I will kill the one who murdered my sister", tore down the deaconesses of former IRGC Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.

The Kurdish party of Iran announced this morning a general strike that will take place throughout the region today and tomorrow as a sign of protest over the killing of the young woman and called on the masses to demonstrate against the regime.

In Amini's hometown, Skaz, a huge funeral march was held with the participation of thousands, and chants against the regime were also chanted there.

On the makeshift headstone that the demonstrators placed on the young woman's grave was written "Mahasa, you will never truly die."

The young woman's grandfather quoted a song at the funeral and said: "We will not bow before Tehran, and we will not bow our noses."

The Iranian opposition leader and feminist activist Mesih Alinjad addressed the women of Iran and wrote: "Iranian women, remove the forced hijab, burn the most visible symbol of oppression. We must not forget that Mahasa Amini was murdered by the hijab police and soon, we are all Mahsa. We all protest against the forced hijab and the Islamic Republic. We want freedom."
