In the debate about how to deal with broadcasting fees in the ARD, he is now calling for a voluntary commitment - and that is based on the Chancellor's salary, of all things.
"I'm against any envy debate, but no director should earn more than the Chancellor," said the FDP leader.
“A self-commitment is necessary here in order to be economical with the fee payers' money,” he says.

According to the report, Chancellor Olaf Scholz earns less than the directors of Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) and ZDF with 413,000 euros and 372,000 euros respectively.

The scientific service of the Bundestag breaks down the salary of the Federal Chancellor: In addition to the official remuneration of the Federal Chancellor, there are location allowances and service expense allowances, so that the monthly earnings amount to around 22,000 euros.
In addition, there are flat-rate payments for MPs and a flat-rate fee for MPs of around 10,000 euros, as well as other services.

ARD was heavily criticized for what happened at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg.
The former director Patricia Schlesinger was dismissed without notice after numerous allegations.
According to reports, Schlesinger, for example, did not bill properly for dinner in her private apartment, which the RBB paid for, and also used her expensive company car for private trips.
