But this is what it could look like.

On Friday, some intrepid people could experience for a few hours what the Glonner market square could be like.

Glonn -

That was only something for the fearless on Friday at the Glonner Marktplatz.

With the conditions not exactly summery, at least 50 courageous people gathered next to the maypole and the town hall for the "PLATZ frei!tag".

And that despite the previous downpour and uncomfortable drizzle.

After all, there was a lot to do on this afternoon, on the occasion of the international PARK(ing) Day:

This time there was space for children's play in the middle of the market square where cars usually park or drive - an offer from the KiJuFa association.

Clubs set up information stands

Information stands gathered under large pavilions on the west side of the square, for example about the Bavarian Radentscheid, from the Glonner Autoteiler or solidarity agriculture.

There you could also put your ideas for the redesign of the market square on paper or find out about the progress of local projects from the Glonn Energy Transition Action Group.

A small café and chairs decorated with flowers adorned the side of the town hall.

Also a symbolic fountain for drinking water, which some say would be desirable on the square.

With the Bund Naturschutz (Bund Naturschutz) it was also possible to press apple juice from local orchards using muscle power and simple equipment.

Mobile stage for local musicians

Then there was a horse trailer, which once again served as a mobile stage.

From there, Uwe Peters from Blue Delight played a few songs that seemed made for the event: 'Who'll stop the rain' by John Fogerty was there, but also 'Rauchzeichen' by Cochise and 'Mad World' by Cochise Tears for Fears.

A successful musical framework for the actors and organizations present: Hans Gröbmayr for AEG, Rosi Reindl for the Bavarian Radentscheid, Sabine Brückmann for the Glonner Autoteiler, Gundel Stehring for the Bund Naturschutz and Angelika Gsellmann for the Solawi fair÷ - they all provided information about their local projects.

Ninarutschmann, spokeswoman for the Glonner Greens, who initiated this meeting, explained the background: "Town centers should become more lively again by converting pure traffic areas into streets and squares that can be used in a variety of ways.

In Glonn, this has long been the wish of many citizens for their marketplace.” According to the party spokeswoman, there have always been initiatives such as the Glonner market women with their regionally known night flea market.

According to a citizen survey, the market square, together with the 50 km/h thoroughfare, is also one of the most urgent projects in the current Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK).

Police block the streets for a few hours

Those present then simply tried out how it feels to walk safely through the Glonner Marktplatz from the shops bordering to the south to the middle of the square: Shortly before 4 p.m. the police blocked the thoroughfare for a few minutes while a zebra crossing made of fabric unrolled and finally was attempted.

That alone conjured up a smile on the faces - not only of the many families with small children.

Meanwhile, the waiting motorists were informed about the campaign and compensated for their waiting with a few gummy bears. Many expressed their understanding or even their support.

That afternoon, at least for a few moments, it was savored how nice it could be if the market town of Glonn finally had a coherent marketplace again where people could move, meet and hang out instead of cars.
