Refugees soon in school gyms?

The president of the district council, Thomas Karmasin (CSU), does not consider "similar conditions as in 2015 and 2016" to be excluded.

Munich – The President of the Bavarian District Council, Thomas Karmasin (CSU), warns of an increase in the number of refugees and does not rule out “similar conditions to those in 2015 and 2016”.

"If this continues, then in a few weeks we will have to fill the first school gyms with refugees, which can no longer be conveyed to people," Karmasin told the

: "We are almost full."

All four municipal umbrella organizations are therefore calling for a refugee summit at federal level.

In a letter to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the district council, city council, community council and district council call for "stronger and also more restrictive control of the admission of refugees and migrants to Germany".

The letter, which is available to our editors, warns: "We will not be able to cope with a refugee crisis like in 2015 again."

Recently, the number of refugees has increased again.

According to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, 115,402 initial applications for asylum were made in the first eight months, an increase of over 35 percent compared to the previous year.

Karmasin warns that the number could double by the end of the year.

The Ukrainians are not included because they have a different status.

Refugees in Bavaria: "Influx" from the Balkans is increasing

The letter to the Chancellor states: "In addition, we are observing an increased influx from and via Turkey.

We are also seeing a significant increase in migrants from countries in the Balkans who are looking for Germany, not least because of the new visa-free regime in Serbia.”

The absolute number of newly arriving refugees would not be the problem nationwide, says Karmasin.

However, it is problematic because the accommodations are full due to many "false occupants" and the people "have no perspective on the housing market for years to come".

False applicants are refugees whose asylum application has either been approved or rejected in the last instance.

But the so-called repatriation of rejected asylum seekers can hardly be organized against the will of the person concerned - Karmasin reports from his district that the number of annual repatriations is "in the low double-digit range".

It is similar elsewhere.

Karmasin estimates that around 40 percent of the shelter's residents are misplaced.

Most of them have also been dropped from the statistics.

Counties cannot therefore argue

that they have already fulfilled their acceptance quota.

The result: You keep receiving new refugee allocations from the district governments.

The number of accommodations has remained about the same since the peak of refugee immigration in 2015/16 - the counties have only dissolved unsustainable emergency container settlements.

There are currently around 2,500 places in Karmasins district, including the so-called anchor center at the Fürstenfeldbruck air base.

It is now important that the federal government does not set any new incentives, said Karmasin.

The danger exists with the new citizens' allowance, which will replace the Hartz 4 regulation from January.

Refugees are also entitled to the citizen's benefit after the asylum procedure has been completed.

"This is bound to trigger a pull effect," Karmasin warned.
