Autumn will enter the northern hemisphere astronomically next Friday, September 23 at 16:30 Damascus time, according to Nabil Al-Bish, a member of the association’s board of directors.

Al-Bish added in a statement to SANA: “The equinox occurs in September when the sun crosses the equator from north to south.”

Al-Bish pointed out that when the autumnal equinox enters the northern hemisphere, the spring equinox will enter the southern hemisphere... and the long polar night begins for six months in the North Pole... and the long polar day also begins for six months in the South Pole... The length of the night is equal. The day is approximately 12 hours by 12 hours over almost the entire surface of the planet.

Al-Bish added: The autumn season is the actual beginning of the rainy season in many Arab countries, and this year it lasts 89 days.

The autumn September equinox is an occasion celebrated by many cultures and religions, especially East Asia, in addition to the migration of some species of birds to the south in search of warmer and more humid temperatures.
