Hurricane Fiona hit the Dominican Republic today (Monday) with heavy rains and winds of about 136 km/h, this is a day after the storm caused a total power outage in the neighboring country of Puerto Rico, where at least one person died
. 3 as it moves north toward Hispaniola, the Caribbean island that the Dominican Republic shares with Haiti, according to the US National Hurricane Center. Also, the Turks and Caicos Islands are under a hurricane warning and the Bahamas may feel tropical storm conditions by Tuesday morning.
Hurricane Fiona hit Porto Rico on Sunday afternoon, dropping about 30 inches of rain in some areas, creating severe flooding.
The storm comes five years after the United States' Caribbean territory was devastated by Hurricane Maria, which caused the worst power outage in the United States.

Nearly 90 percent of Puerto Rico remained without power during the day, and officials said it would take days to reconnect the entire island of 3.3 million people.
Many roads remain blocked due to fallen trees and mudslides.
About 400 people were rescued from the floods in the town of Salinas, located in the south of the country, and other areas near it were even more severely damaged.
