Damascus-SANA

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, discussed with the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, the representative of the World Health Organization in Syria, Dr. Iman Al-Shanqiti, and the accompanying delegation, about cooperation between the World Health Organization and Syria.

Dr. Al-Mandhari stressed that the solid health system that Syria enjoyed before the crisis contributed greatly to its cohesion, unlike most countries that have experienced crises.

Al-Mandhari praised the partnership and close cooperation between the Syrian government and the World Health Organization, which resulted in many projects and programs that contributed to the health service of the Syrian citizen, pointing out that the existing spirit of cooperation succeeded in overcoming challenges and contributed to the beneficial use of available opportunities for the health system in Syria.

Al-Mandhari praised the strong performance of the Syrian diplomacy in international forums and the United Nations, especially in the Security Council and Geneva, stressing that the interventions of Syrian diplomats always put points on the line.

In turn, Dr. Al-Jaafari pointed out that the politicization of the work of some international organizations leads to a weakening of their role, and that the World Health Organization's move away from politicization has greatly contributed to its success in Syria and the world despite the increase in the spread of dangerous epidemics in the world in recent years.

Dr. Al-Jaafari stressed that the unilateral coercive measures of some countries deprive the Syrian citizen of his right to obtain many basic medical devices and materials such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices and even medical surgical threads and others, which indicates the immorality of these procedures and their imposition.

Dr. Al-Jaafari noted the distinguished activity of the World Health Organization office in Syria and stressed the need for all United Nations organizations in Syria and international non-governmental organizations in Syria to spend their entire budget on projects that serve the Syrian citizen so that these funds are not returned to their source if they are not spent.

Dr. Al-Jaafari invited Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, to visit Syria.

The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Reef Al-Halabi, Director of Information, Wael Al-Khalil, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations, Dr. Nizar Kbebo from the Deputy Minister's office, and on the part of the World Health Organization delegation, Inas Hammam, and Rafeeq Al-Habbal.
