A spokesman for the Centre for Food Safety said that the authorities in Canada, the United States and France have been contacted about the incident, and will continue to closely monitor the information issued by the World Organization for Animal Health and relevant authorities on the outbreak of avian influenza, and take appropriate actions in response to the development of the local epidemic.

The Center for Food Safety announced earlier that due to the outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Grafschaft Bentheim, Lower Saxony, Germany, and Defiance County, Ohio, the United States, the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including poultry eggs) from the above-mentioned areas is suspended.

However, with the outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in many foreign countries, the CFS announced that Strathcona County in Alberta, Canada, Brown County in Minnesota in the United States and Meuse in France are also included in the import list to protect the public health of Hong Kong.
