Bright colours, furniture made from recycled materials, stationery: the major decorating trends for the new season

2022-09-19T03:49:54.395Z

François Delcaux, head researcher for the Maison & Objets show in Villepinte and director of the design consulting agency Un nouveau air, wants to re-enchant our interiors. It tells us what to remember from the new decoration trends.

Madame Figaro.– During the last Salon Maison & Objets, you presented a space called Utopia Now.

What was it ?

Francois Delcaux*.

- This trend space was a snub to the word “dystopia”, which has been very fashionable lately.

It is true that it is difficult to see the future in pink!

But I think that the world of decoration, faced with these pessimistic visions, can send positive signals.

It's my utopia!

And the use of the word

now

is not insignificant.

I wanted to show that, faced with the great utopias that never come true, there are small ones that can come true.

That's what I call decorating for a desirable future.

How can decoration cheer us up?

Thanks to the color!

It's the magic wand.

Certainly, a great wave of greens is sweeping the interiors.

But you can choose any shade.

The one that pleases is the best way to re-enchant your home, and therefore your daily life.

You can also work it in color block or prefer shades.

Paint a wall or bring color with accessories.

Everything is possible.

On my Utopia Now space, I had chosen to highlight mint greens, an orange tinged with coral and an acid yellow.

This is the 2022–2023 color range, but nothing prevents you from moving away from it to develop your “color therapy”.

decor spirit  ?

We see a lot of graphics with geometric flat areas inspired by the optical art of the 1960s. of stationery.

Stationery is not decoration!

On the contrary !

With the development of telework, we often have our office in the living room or in our bedroom.

And the notebook placed on it becomes an element of the decor.

Moreover, very creative stationery brands, such as Papier Tigre, are multiplying.

Same thing in the bathroom: the soap on the edge of the sink is a decorative accessory.

And there too, we find soaps designed as real objects.

They are often made using traditional skills, which is becoming more and more important for the consumer.

This interest in know-how is linked to sustainability: is it now essential for a decoration brand to be sustainable?

Surrounding yourself with furniture and objects that make sense, respect people and the planet is essential today.

But they must also be desirable.

The decoration sector is aware of these imperatives.

We see more and more textiles in recycled materials, labeled and local manufacturing.

And this concerns all market players: from luxury to more accessible brands such as Camif.

Publishers like Noma illustrate this link between the beautiful and the well-made.

Each piece of furniture offered by this house is signed by a designer and has an identity card that specifies its country of manufacture, the quantity of recycled materials used... I hope that the utopia of a sustainable house is in the process of becoming materialize.
