Catch children early with targeted offers

The "Bridge Oberland" and youth development hope to extend the afternoon group for five to eight year olds.

Bad Tölz - The first week after the summer holidays was not only the starting signal for school lessons in the district.

The "Project in Lettenholz" from the bridge Oberland and the Tölz youth development is now also happening every Thursday afternoon.

Since the beginning of this year, there has been an offer for children between the ages of five and eight once a week.

They can come to the youth and community center on Lettenholz for two hours, where they will be cared for by employees of the Brücke Oberland and can also make social contacts.

Needs analysis carried out

"A needs analysis has shown that there are hardly any offers for children of this age," explains social planner Franz Späth at the press conference.

Most of the children in this age group would live in Bad Tölz in the Lettenholz settlement - many of them with a migration background.

"It's nice when the children romp around outside, but a structured offer is important here - also to catch the children early on," explains Martina Scheifele from the Brücke Oberland.

On site, two supervisors from the organization lead the group.

One of them is Silke Reusch.

"We often play here in the room or go on excursions, such as herbal tours," she reports.

The parents of the children who had visited the group up until the summer holidays were impressed by the offer.

"Many have also noticed that their children have made significant progress in learning German through contact with others," she reports.

Youth welfare office finances a large part

The project is financed to a large extent by the youth welfare office.

Manager Ulrich Reiner: “We are happy to have gotten the means to do this quite quickly.

After all, children and young people in particular have suffered greatly from the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

It is important to be able to offer children structured social offers again.” The youth welfare office contributes 10,000 euros per year to the project.

"We hope that there is a possibility of an extension," everyone agreed.

The Tölzer youth development supports the project by making the rooms available.

The municipal support fund for children, young people and families in Bad Tölz, for which the second mayor Michael Lindmair was present, helps with financial resources.

“We are there to fill the gaps in funding for projects like this,” explained Lindmair, pointing out that there was also the option of making project-related donations.

Children also bring siblings

In the first half of the year, between six and nine children regularly used the group offer.

"Many brought their siblings with them," said Reusch.

"Most of them came regularly, because that's exactly what it's designed for." If a child comes to the meeting, all you need to attend is a signature from a parent or legal guardian.

It is now hoped that the committees will vote to continue supporting the project.

“It would be important for the Lettenholz area.

Many of the children live here who are not necessarily taught at home how to go to clubs and thus maintain social contacts,” emphasizes Späth.
