The lawyers of the Argentine vice president assure before the court that the accusation against her lacks foundation. Kirchner accuses prosecutors of "blatantly lying"

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner defends herself before the Justice.

The legal team of the vice president harshly attacked the prosecutors who requested 12 years in prison against her for considering her the head of an illicit association created to enrich herself with money from public works.

On the first day of Kirchner's defense arguments, her lawyers pointed out that her accusation against her is "false and unfounded" and warned that she had already been tried before.

"For nine days we listened to a plea in which, having forgotten everything that was said in this trial, the same accusations that had been mentioned since 2008 and then since 2016 were formulated and substantiated. As if the trial had not existed," said the lawyer Carlos Beraldi in reference to the accusation made by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

“It is unprecedented.

She is persecuted five times for the same crime: illicit association, ”added Beraldi, citing other cases against her that have been filed.

The lawyer argued that there was "malpractice" on the part of prosecutors Diego Luciani and Sergio Mola to prepare the accusation against Kirchner by assuming that there were irregularities in the financing of public works in the province of Santa Cruz, in the extreme south. from the country.

“We played a game on a sloped court.

We are going to demonstrate how the accusation was constructed,” he pointed out.

Throughout the week, Kirchner's legal team will seek to destroy the evidence presented against the former president of Argentina.

Prosecutors maintain that between 2007 and 2015 she headed an illicit association that defrauded the State of millions of pesos through the award of public road works in the province of Santa Cruz to businessman Lázaro Báez, very close to the Kirchners and who was sentenced to death. 12 years in prison for money laundering in 2021.

You saw what I told you yesterday, right?

That Beraldi was going to undress the script of Luciani and Mola.

I correct myself, it went much further: it proved in a documented way -as should be done in any trial- that Luciani and Mola lied blatantly.

He, out of professional decorum, called it malpractice

At the end of the first day of arguments, the Argentine vice president reinforced the thesis of her lawyers through social networks.

“[Beraldi] proved in documented form —as must be done in any trial— that Luciani and Mola lied outright.

He, out of professional decorum, called it malpractice," Kirchner wrote on Twitter.

Three weeks ago, the vice president had denounced that the trial she faces is actually "against all Peronism" and considered that it was a "fiction" without evidence.

Kirchner blamed the prosecutors for adopting the script of the media related to the current political opposition and assured that the sentence against him "was already written."

The trial against Kirchner and a dozen collaborators —including the aforementioned Báez, the former Minister of Federal Planning Julio de Vido and the former Secretary of Public Works José López— began in May 2019. The Federal Oral Court 2 of Buenos Aires dictates sentence before the end of the year.
