The textile market, which took place at the Benediktbeuern monastery at the weekend, once again attracted many visitors.

142 exhibitors presented their products.

Benediktbeuern – pig or rabbit?

Or is it the wolf?

Sabine Schenk from Ried found it difficult to decide which of the cute hand puppets she should buy at the Maria Barleben stand.

Together with her friend Christina Moschnitscha, the cook came to the textile market in Benediktbeuern for the second time this year to choose "something nice" for her home from the motley variety of felted, sewn, crocheted or painted goods.

Finding something nice: For many, that was the reason why they visited the two-day market, which has been taking place regularly in Benediktbeuern Abbey since 2003.

They were not deterred by the rain and cool temperatures.

Up to come from Salzburg

Alexandra Haipl even drove here from Salzburg, as she said.

She has already been to the textile market four times.

“The area and the monastery are so beautiful.

And the offer is so nice,” said the Salzburg native.

"We don't have anything like that here." She only strolled around the market area for ten minutes and had already found something: two cows made of leather that you can attach to a bunch of keys as a pendant.

A few meters further on, Ute Walz stood in her stand full of large and small felted animals and mythical creatures.

This is the first time she has applied to take part in the market, says the artist from Baden-Württemberg.

Despite the bad weather, she is now satisfied with the course of the event.

"It's going quite well and the ambiance is really nice."

Offer was creative and rich

Her dealer colleague Susanne Doebel was also satisfied.

Her fashion, which she makes from old sacks or carpets, is a hit with market visitors, she rejoiced, while helping customer Fritz Hasslwanter into a coat that used to be a coffee sack in his previous life.

Whether clothing such as trousers or jackets, leather goods such as belts or creative headgear, plus a wide variety of home accessories such as cushions or tablecloths, as well as dog beds or unusual jewellery: the range at the textile market was creative and rich.

Regular customers were not deterred

A total of 142 exhibitors took part this year, said Barbara Bode, who has been organizing the market for years.

This year, however, it was organized by the ZUK for the first time.

There have been years with 150 dealers.

"But we noticed that this size is actually not good for the market," says Bode.

In view of the bad weather, she was also “extremely satisfied” with the number of visitors.

While in previous years there were often around 10,000 visitors per day, this year it was certainly fewer.

But many regular customers would not have been deterred by the rain and cold.

However, she has no exact figures on the number of visitors.

Next year the textile market should take place again.
