Engineer Arnous discusses with Al-Mandhari ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and the World Health Organization

The Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, discussed today with Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization, ways to enhance cooperation between the Syrian government and the organization and increase health services provided to the health sector to enable it to face challenges, in addition to the projects implemented by the organization in Syria in cooperation with the concerned authorities .

Arnous pointed out the difficulties facing the health sector in light of the unjust siege that impedes securing the necessary medical needs and supplies and the negative effects that the sector has been exposed to as a result of terrorism, the destruction of the infrastructure and construction of many hospitals and health centers, and the theft of medical supplies and equipment from them.

The Prime Minister called for the development of global health protocols that encourage all countries to cooperate to confront any emergency health cases or pandemics away from politicization and penalties that cause harm to peoples and the health sector, stressing that one of the priorities of government work in Syria is to support the health sector and rehabilitate its facilities to enable it to provide services. Health and medical services for all Syrian citizens in all regions. In this context, services were restored to all areas liberated from terrorism, expressing the Syrian government's appreciation for the helping efforts made by the World Health Organization.

Engineer Arnous pointed out that what is happening in Al-Hasakah Governorate in terms of water cuts by the Turkish occupation and its terrorist tools is a crime against humanity, calling at the same time the World Health Organization to provide support to the health sector to confront the recorded cases of cholera and to devote efforts to surround it.

For his part, Al-Mandhari affirmed the organization's continued support for the health sector in Syria, which faced challenges that crossed borders, pointing out that the health system in Syria has a long history and was one of the best health systems in terms of child care, reproductive health, transparency, equipment, tools and other advantages.

Al-Mandhari pointed to the comprehensive health coverage and basic health services that the health sector provides to the Syrian citizen despite the challenges, and said that “the organization focuses in implementing its projects in Syria on priorities, achieving sustainability and rapid response to emergency situations,” expressing his appreciation for the facilities provided to the organization in Syria.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabash, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Qais Muhammad Khader, and the delegation accompanying the Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization.
