The Russian ambassador to Berlin, Sergey Nechaev, announced that his country will not support the game of visa restrictions and discrimination, and its doors will remain open to all.
Commenting on the decision of some European countries to stop granting entry visas to Russian citizens, Nechaev said, according to RIA Novosti: “Berlin initially did not support the most extreme proposals of a well-known group of countries, including taking into account the presence in Germany of a diaspora community of millions of Russian-speaking people who have relations with With relatives and friends in Russia.
He added: "It is clear that our European neighbors are facing problems with the continuous renewal of the anti-Russian sanctions catalog, and this is what is needed in Brussels and Washington, even though these steps harm the interests of their citizens."
The German government had submitted a draft resolution to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian citizens as part of an upcoming sanctions package.
