The body of an Italian tourist who disappeared in July while hiking in the Peruvian Andes has been found, police said on Monday (September 19th).

Alberto Fedele, 30, had left the city of Urubamba on July 4 to go hiking at the Juchuycocha lagoon, in the Cuzco region (southeast), on the 5,530-meter high Chicon mountain, and had not no longer showed signs of life.

Urubamba, a town of 15,000 inhabitants located 50 km north of Cusco, is frequented by tourists who go to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

A Belgian tourist, Natacha de Crombrugghe, 28, has been missing since January 24 when she went hiking in the canyon of the Colca River after visiting Machu Picchu.

In the past five years, two other tourists, of Spanish and American nationality, have disappeared in the Cusco region, according to local press.
