Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said today (Monday) that "there are some signs that the Holocaust did take place, but we need to investigate it."
He said these things in an interview with the 60 Minutes program of the American CBS network.
"Historical events should be studied by historians," he tried to explain his position.
Raisi continued to speak out against Israel and claimed, "Any country that shakes the hand of the Zionist regime is complicit in its crimes. This is stabbing the Palestinian issue in the back."
The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, called on the Secretary General of the United Nations to "strongly condemn" Raisi. "It is shocking to hear the president of Iran openly denying the Holocaust.
I call on the UN Secretary General to prevent him from spreading his despicable hatred and anti-Semitism on the UN stage this week. We must not give a platform to the 'Taheran butcher'. His speech will be another moral low for the UN."
