The 77th general debate of the UN General Assembly is scheduled for this week.
Before the start, UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a warning to member countries.
Guterres sees global development at risk because of numerous crises and the unstable world situation.
“We meet at a moment of great peril to our world.
Conflicts and the climate catastrophe.
distrust and division.
poverty, inequality and discrimination.
Rising food and energy costs,” Guterres said in a speech in New York.
This worldwide development is also bringing the self-imposed goals for sustainable development to the brink of failure.
The UN sustainability goals can still be saved.
In 2015, the world's heads of state and government adopted the so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A total of 17 goals are to be achieved by 2030, including ending extreme poverty and hunger and improving global education.
It is also about fighting the climate crisis and the prosperity gap.

More than 150 heads of state and government have announced that they will be attending the General Assembly this year in New York, with numerous side events up until September 26th.
