(CNN Spanish) --

Queen Elizabeth II will be buried in the Chapel of St. George, located on the grounds of Windsor Castle, where the remains of 10 other monarchs and those of her husband, Prince Philip, among other members are found. of the royal family.

On Monday 19 September, after the state funeral is held at Westminster Abbey, the coffin will be carried in procession to Wellington Arch and finally make the journey from London to Windsor.

St. George's Chapel is the site of Prince Philip's memorial service, as well as more jubilant occasions such as the nuptials of the queen's grandchildren.

Among the most recent weddings is that of the Dukes of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, which took place in the majestic building.

Following the service for the Duke of Edinburgh in 2021, his coffin was lowered into the Royal Vault, located below the chapel, where many members of the royal family rest.

However, it is expected that he will be relocated to rest alongside the queen in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, located elsewhere within St. George's Chapel.

Also buried in St. George's Chapel are Queen Elizabeth II's parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother, and her sister, Princess Margaret.

In total there are 10 buried sovereigns.

Five are in two funerary vaults that are under the choir and another five in tombs in the chapel itself.

The chapel where Queen Elizabeth II will be buried dates back to the Middle Ages

The construction of the chapel began in 1475, under the reign of Edward IV, and was completed in 1528 by King Henry VIII.

For reasons of privacy, the queen used to attend services at another chapel in Windsor, but she did attend services at St George's Chapel on certain special occasions, for example every year at Easter.

Memorial services for her and her husband's birthdays have also been held there.

It is also the chapel of the Order of the Garter.

This order was founded in medieval times by King Edward III, inspired by the stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Edward III created his own group of honorable knights and, nearly 700 years old, the Order of the Garter is, according to the royal family, "the oldest and highest ranking of the chivalric orders of Great Britain".

Queen Elizabeth II's burial will mark the end of a days-long farewell that includes a state funeral at Westminster Abbey, where state dignitaries are expected to arrive from around the world to join family members in the commemoration of the queen's life and service.
