Monika Gruber will be there live at the Wiesn tapping on BR in the Schottenhamel marquee.

A white sausage offer becomes a test of courage for the cabaret artist.

Munich - The Wiesn is pure tradition.

But the Oktoberfest, which is making its comeback from this Saturday (September 17th) until October 3rd, keeps moving with the times.

This also applies to the eating habits of its visitors.

After all, vegetarian and vegan are trendy, especially among the younger generation.

The Schottenhamel festival tent also offers meatless alternatives.

For example, there is a vegetarian snack board on the menu, with fresh radish cheese, vegan tartare and Munich quinoa farmhouse bread.

Baked potato waffles with mushroom ragout and herbs are also specially marked as vegan.

Now the dishes without chicken, pork and beef are not for everyone in the otherwise well-known hearty Upper Bavarian cuisine.

Apparently, Monika Gruber is one of those gourmet friends who still appreciate a crispy roast pork and a juicy Leberkas.

The 51-year-old cabaret artist who lives in Erding was promptly faced with a real test of courage at the Wiesn tapping with Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) in the Schottenhamel marquee.

The BR moderators Sonja Weissensteiner and Michael Sporer, who attracted attention with a secret note on his hand, had prepared two plates with different white sausages for Gruber and the "Münchner Kindl" Viktoria Ostler.

"I was afraid we'd have to eat this.

It looks like pressed sawdust," Gruber said when she saw a white sausage that was more of a white-yellowish color - and no skin.

That struck her as visibly suspicious.

Is that vegetarian or vegan? She asked the two moderators, who initially didn't want to reveal anything.

Gruber and Ostler tried cautiously.” I have to admit, I'm surprised.

It's not as bad as I thought," the actress said. "I'm brave.

Mine wasn't that bad.

If someone doesn't know, someone who's already had a pint can do it as a real white sausage.

cheer.” What she didn't know herself: she had just eaten a piece of a real white sausage, as Weissensteiner and Sporer explained.

Ostler and Gruber finally agreed that the vegan version could not keep up with the original.

Ostler said diplomatically: “The Wiesn is there for everyone.

That's why everyone can eat what they like." Gruber was more critical: "I don't understand the approach.

I mean, you don't order meaty kohlrabi either.

But everyone should eat what they like.” Incidentally, what the components of the vegan white sausage are was not resolved.
