A new slide facility is to be built in the “Rigi-Rutsch'n”.

There is no doubt about that at the municipal works.

The only question is when?

Peißenberg

– There were big celebrations in the “Rigi-Rutsch'n” during the past summer season.

Several well-attended events took place to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening – including a pool serenade and an official day of celebration.

However, there was one small drop of bitterness at the celebrations: Where the striking yellow slide used to be, only the support pylons were sticking out of the ground.

The landmark of the "Rigi-Rutsch'n" was demolished at the beginning of 2021.

The slide system had to be shut down in the summer of 2020 after parts of the plastic tub had come loose.

The municipal utilities were actually aiming for a quick new building.

The new slide should be available for the anniversary and it should be bigger and more attractive.

The choice of material was also decided early on: the slide should not be made of plastic, but of stainless steel.

And what are the current plans?

"I can't really say anything new at the moment," explains Karin Hosse, the manager of the spa park, when asked by the local newspaper.

It hangs on the slide pool

The matter is quite complicated: According to Hosse, the new building depends on the planned renovation of the slide pool.

Instead of the tile border, the same should have a stainless steel tub with rounded edges.

The slide and pool must be structurally coordinated.

It's about the right geometric shape, but also about technical issues such as the water inlet via the slide.

The slide pool is connected to the other outdoor pools via the central water circuit.

"The specialist planners say quite clearly that it makes no sense to bring forward the construction of the new slide," states Hosse.

The commissioned offices are currently “preparing the structural and technical issues in detail”.

Hosse cannot yet say anything concrete about what the slide should look like:

"It has not yet been decided whether it will be five meters longer or not." The fun factor, emphasizes the operations manager, can also be enhanced with technical accessories such as traffic light switching and time measurement.

When it comes to the material, stainless steel is still the preferred choice: “But if the planners say that plastic is the better solution overall, then we could change our minds again.” The advantage of stainless steel would be that it is more durable.

The downside: It gets pretty hot at high temperatures.

then you could turn around again.” The advantage of stainless steel would be that it is more durable.

Construction work is scheduled to start in 2023

And what about the timing?

According to Hosse, the project should now reach the next stage as soon as possible with the approval planning.

The construction work on the new slide and the pool could then probably start in 2023.

The municipal utilities want the bathing operation to be able to continue in parallel in the other pools.

But that is not certain.

"If the planning effort requires it", Hosse does not categorically rule out a "shortening of the season".

A failure was "not desired" by the works.

It is pretty certain that the slide will not be finished in 2023.

Hosse does not want to make any promises regarding the timetable, "but from our point of view 2024 is definitely feasible".

And: “It is indisputable that there will be a new slide.

It is an essential part of our bathroom.”
