German pensioners destroy historic bridge in Mallorca - city has to move in with excavators

Two German pensioners damaged an aqueduct so badly in an accident on the holiday island of Mallorca that it had to be demolished.
It was in danger of collapsing.

Son Servera – On the holiday island of Mallorca, a bridge had to be demolished on Saturday (September 17th).
The reason?
Two German pensioners had rammed the pillar of the historic monument with their car.
They had left the road with the small car, reports the
Mallorca newspaper
.

A destroyed monument: As the photos from the scene of the accident show, one of the pillars of the "Pont den Calet" bridge at the entrance to Son Servera in the east of Mallorca has clearly collapsed.
The two pensioners had strayed off the road in their small Skoda car and crashed into the bridge pier.
The German couple was cared for by an ambulance on site and taken to a hospital in Manacor.
It is not known how badly the two occupants were injured.
To protect other drivers, the road in Mallorca, where severe storms are currently raging, was initially closed.
It was unclear whether the bridge was in danger of collapsing.

Apparently, the technicians of the community saw no other option.
Around 8 p.m. on Saturday, about four and a half hours after the accident happened, the "Pont den Calet" was demolished with the help of the Guardia Civil and the fire brigade, according to the

The "Pont den Calet" in the village of Son Servera is an old aqueduct that used to bring water to the city.
The town hall of Son Servera announced that the historic bridge should be rebuilt,
Mallorcamagazin
reports .
In the current state, however, it was impossible to obtain them.
